Getting started with Crypto Mining...

welcome
everyone here seems so mine on a different pool or strategy if at all… im mining on p2pool with ccminer and my little gui to keep track of my earnings…
im currently mining with an GTX970 wich earns approximately 3 to 4€ a day and im looking forward to buy a 2nd or even 3rd one this sunday :-)
but its up to you how you approach mining ftc…

I already saw your GUI, nice work, keep it up!
I am always open for suggestions of improvement, i actually just started yesterday.
Getting about 170kh/s with the 750TI, tried to overclock it, but over +70 MHz Core Clock the nsgminer throws an error (-5), I am running it now at +70 MHz Core Clock and +350MHz Memory Clock.
I’ll try ccminer aswell, to get an overview of all the miners available.

ccminer is working a lot better for me im using an older one from djm34 wich gave me the best results so far
the GTX970 is about 600 to 690KH/s depending on the temperature in my room

Hello,
I’m new to this forum. I want to get started mining feathercoin. I have 2 (cheap) laptops on which I plan to install linux (ubuntu/fedora/similar).
Can someone suggest recommendations on how to mine feathercoin using my 2 spare laptops ? I came across https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=712650.0 is this the right link for getting started mining feathercoin? I’m a newb to mining in general. Is this the right link to start with, and do i get packages for linux anywhere, like I see for windows ?
Thanks,

Thanks,
nkshirsa. As a miner I wouldn’t recommend laptops for mining as they don’t usually have the correct cooling needed.
Having said that, you can run CPU miner on a low intensity and mine with the laptops.

@AcidD thanks a ton for the quick response. what would you recommend, as a desktop configuration ? I could sell both the laptops and trade for a decent desktop i guess… Is it easier getting started on windows, guessing from the fact that there’s packages available for installing cpu miner?
-
If you’re just getting into mining and want a small rig…
1 - Get a desktop with a motherboard that can support 2x graphics cards on PCI express slots.
This desktop doesn’t need to have expensive parts, just good graphics cards and a good power supply. CPU, RAM and HDD can be cheap.2 - I personally switched to Linux for mining…but it’s much much harder to set up than windows.
if you’re just starting…I’d say use windows and NSGminer, and I personally use AMD cards.Hope this helps…

2x graphics cards on PCI express slots.
thanks a ton!
so basically i need 2 graphics cards, u said? So 2 nvidia geforce, will do?
im a little confused, why graphics cards, why not just a fast multi core cpu ? does mining basically use the graphics cards cpu, and not the main cpu ?
also i guess i need average ram, like say 16 GB for the desktop will do ?
last question, can i mine multiple coins at the same time, other than feathercoin? any recommendations ?
thanks a ton for all the help! im basically just eager to get started mining !

Yes, you can use NVIDA cards, they use a bit less power per hash.
It turns out, that ccminer is the best mining software for NVidia at the moment.im a little confused, why graphics cards, why not just a fast multi core cpu ? does mining basically use the graphics cards cpu, and not the main cpu ?
Yes, mining is done most efficient on the GPU = Graphic Processing Unit which basically is the graphics card.
also i guess i need average ram, like say 16 GB for the desktop will do ?
If you use the desktop for mining only even 8 GByte would do well on a Linux based system
last question, can i mine multiple coins at the same time, other than feathercoin? any recommendations ?
Yes, you can ;)
Either you can setup two miner processes, each mining a different coin, or you could us a multicoin pool that switches between coins based on several parameters to optimize you mining income. In return they charge a fee for that.I do not recommend multicoin switching pools for starters. It’s better to start mining one coin, get some experience and then decide to use a switching pool or not.
thanks a ton for all the help! im basically just eager to get started mining !

@Wellenreiter thanks for the help,
is this video a good reference to get started mining ftc? https://tsakf.org/2017/06/how-to-mine-feathercoin or shall i just download ccminer and thats all i need ? dont i have to create account on wemineftc or similar for a mining pool ? or do i do solo mining ? -
One of the reasons we recommend p2pool is that you don’t have to create any account on a server, you just mine to an address …
