Mining profitability

Hi everyone and thanks for your time. I’m new to cryptocurrency but have been doing alot of research and am intrigued by Feathercoin as an investment and to mine.
If i were to set up a rig, how much can one reasonably expect to make from mining?
Also, can I buy feathercoin only from feathercoin or are there other exchanges? Any plans for other exchages?
Thanks for your help everyone.

Hi @Antonio
Welcome to the forums, CryptoCurrency and Feathercoin!
If i were to set up a rig, how much can one reasonably expect to make from mining?
If you mean, how much FTC will you mine? then that depends on your rig and what kind of cards you bought etc.
If you mean how much FIAT profit you’ll make? That depends on a few factors like the Bitcoin exchange rate as well as your cost of electricity etc.
Also, can I buy feathercoin only from feathercoin or are there other exchanges? Any plans for other exchages?
Feathercoin isn’t a company so we dont “sell” Feathercoin…
To acquire Feathercoin/FTC you can either
1 - mine them
2 - buy them on an exchange
3 - buy them OTC from someone who’s trust worthy.I highly recommend you take 10 mins and read through the posts here:

Welcome to the forum @Antonio :)
If you want to calculate the profitability of your (possible) mining, you may check out https://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/feathercoin-mining-calculator
if you check out the mining section of the Forum, you also may get some information which hash rates you can expect for different GPU cards.

Hi and welcome. Be interested to see how you get on.

Welcome!

thanks for all your responses. Really appreciate it. Would really like to start up some mining. Recommendations on what I should do or go about it would be appreciated?
Thanks again, and I will check out those links recommended.

@Antonio - So I’m a miner…my miners are down at the moment :(
I used to use windows but recently moved to Linux for mining…it’s a little more complex to get setup, but once its done…the miner is much more stable than windows and much more easy to check on / maintain etc…
To start mining…first things first…Your budget and electric costs need to be taken into factor…there are mining calculators for this…where you can put in the cost of your mining hardware + the cost of electricity per Kilowatt Hour + plus the Hashrate you have vs the Coin Algorithm you want to mine…see the link @Wellenreiter posted.
to start off as a “hobby” miner…i’d say invest in a good motherboard + good/high capacity powersupply + and 1 Good GPU… RAM, CPU and HDD can be cheap…you can even run linux off a USB and forget about the harddrive…
this way if you like mining…you can just add more cards…if you dont like it…you haven’t spent a ton of money and can probably re-sell the hardware fairly easily and make back most of the cost.
so I’ll use one of my miners as an example with 1 Graphics card.

Motherboard
Asus Rampage IV Extreme Intel x79 socket 2011 -
Power Supply
Corsair CP-9020008-UK Professional Series Digital AX1200i -
Graphics Card
MSI AMD R9 290X GAMING Graphics Card (4GB, DDR5, PCI-E) -
CPU
Cheapest and shittest Intel Socket 2011 CPU I could find… -
RAM
8GB of ram I had lying around -
Hard Drive
2.5 inch old laptop Hard Drive I had lying around
So at a high level…
dump Ubuntu onto the above, install the correct AMD drivers and AMD SDK , install the correct OpenGL drivers and then get a copy of nsgminer from @ghostlander and you’re done!point nsgminer to p2pool or whatever pool you choose.

I dont know much about Nvidia cards for mining…when I got into mining AMD was all the rage but I believe Nvidia has made a lot of progress in the mining worlds, so do some research and ask around.I hope this helps…post in the mining section if you need more help ;-)

@AcidD thanks much for the detail. I am going to get on that and keep you posted. One last thing for anyone out there.
I have downloaded the feathercoin wallet for my android and my laptop from this site. It’s been 3 days on my android and it says there are 6 peers connected and still has 19 months to sync. Why is this taking so long to sync?
Also, on my computer the wallet is Exodus software? and I don’t see feathercoin mentioned on there at all?
Cheers.

The mobile wallet takes time and depends on things like device speed and interent connection.
The desktop wallet ? Where did you download it from ? Www.feathercoin.com has valid links that ive tested.
I dont know what “Exodos” is…

@AcidD Thanks for that response. Took about 3 days but the mobile wallet looks like it’s good now.
I don’t know where that Exodus wallet came from? I downloaded from the site again, and now I have the Feathercoin wallet on my desktop and it’s synching. Currently telling me it’s 3 years and 2 weeks behind.
As long as I have your attention, can you direct me or tell me some places where Feathercoin is used or “accepted”. I have some ideas in mind to get it out there, if the community is interested?
Thanks again for all your help.
