Old QT Wallet
-
Hi guys,
After hours of searching im at a loss / confused about the best way to proceed. Around 3 years ago, i was mining Feathercoins. At the time, all the coins were deposited into my wallet - QT 4.8.1 . I have simply left those coins there, after 3 years. Ive now realised a whole loada stuff has developed leaving me standing out in breeze with no idea.My wallet (very outdated) wont sync at all. Ive added various nodes with no success. Is there a way to transfer coins to a new, more current up to date wallet? Or is it a matter of rectifying the sync issue and then transfering?
Any help, advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers Guys,

Hi @chris1269
Welcome back to Feathercoin!
3 years in Crypto is a very very long time. You should try to keep upto date!
First, as a matter of principle and being smart.
1 - Backup your Wallet.dat file
2 - Backup your Private keys (including change addresses)The above ensures you have two copies of your addresses/keys… Better safe than sorry. We’ve had some users loose quite a bit of Feathercoin because they were… to put it simply, Stupid.
When you’ve backed up everything, let us know.
Are you on Windows, Linux or MacOS ?

Hey @AcidD ,
Cheers for the reply. What can i say, life got pretty damn hectic and cryptos took a back seat and forgotten about. Time to rekindle that fire! Make perfect sense dude, Il get onto it in a moment.
Im running Windows 7 64bit. The laptops old, and had its best so its time to get with the time!

Ok cool.
So step one - get to your C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Feathercoin directory and copy the wallet.dat to a safe place
then open your current Feathercoin-Qt Wallet, get to the console and then type dumpwallet
this should list all your wallet addresses, change addresses and corresponding private keys. Copy these out and keep them somewhere safe, in a text file or something. But keep it safe and OFFLINE
once the above is done, you can uninstall Feathercoin-qt as this sits in ProgramFiles and not in AppData
you can then go to www.fethercoin.com and download the new x64 bit client we released a few days ago.
Install it and then run Feathercoin-QT.
let us know how you get on.

Cheers @AcidD,
Ive copied the wallet.dat to a secure, safe place. However when going to the console / dumpwallet. This error occurs “Method not found (code -32601)”.
Is it imperitive this is change now, (i have the address) or can we change it later?

What version of Feathercoin-qt are you running?
if you have the wallet.dat you should be good. I usually tell people to do the dumpwallet as an extra precaution.

try to use dumpprivkey <your feathercoin address> and write down or copy/paste the string shown after some seconds
Repeat this step for all addresses you used.

All done mate, old wallet uninstalled. New wallet installed.
Upon opening, coins were automatically in the wallet.
Unable to sync “no block chain available”.
This were adding additional nodes comes into play?

@chris1269
