Old wallet gone?????????
-
Sorry to hear, that you lost your wallet.
The wallet address and the password are not sufficient to get back your coins.
You need one of the following:
A backup copy of the file wallet.dat which was located in the ~user/.feathercoin directory for Linux or in the %APPDATA%\feathercoin directory for windows
OR
The wallet’s private keys, which you could have get with the wallet command ‘dumppivkey’
If you don’t have either, your coins are lost.

@wellenreiter Im a normal guy how do you use that dumpkiey command… there is no place in the wallet to put it. if i can get the datat file where do and how do I put it in there.
You know when I got all these coins I copied what they told me to copy the name address and password… I feel they should have told me to copy something else or provide a way to do this… How can they rip people off like this? -

What do you mean by “They”
Who gave you these instructions ?
-
@acidd “THEY” fethercoin… they made the wallet they gave me the address and name etc THEY changed their program so we cant access our stuff… fethercoin is the people who i got the wallet from…
anyways I went and looked for files, I opened the old feathercoin wallet but it would not connect… I saved a back up supposedly. it askd me to name which i did. it is a dat file 72 kb… so how do I restore that? -
Right so I’m a member of the Feathercoin team. I do the Mac and Windows Releases.
let me try and address your issues so other people reading do not get the wrong idea.
We - did not change our program so you couldn’t access your stuff. Our software was upgraded and we expect our users to upgrade with us. This is normal and most software including bitcoin works like this.
You said " how do you use that dumpkey command… there is no place in the wallet to put it." This is simply not true. If you click around and explore the Feathercoin-qt application and all the options…You’ll find the console window where you can type console commands to Feathercoin-QT.
If you’re on a mac…you can follow my last post here:
https://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/9467/something-wrong-on-import-a-super-old-wallet/9if you’re on Windows or Linux let me know and I’ll do my best to help.
I can appreciate your frustration…hopefully we can sort this out shortly.
-
Also one of our Team members @wrapper has painstakingly put together a very detailed guide for Fethercoin-QT. It’s wonderful and has pictures as well
https://github.com/wrapperband/FeathercoinWalletGuide
It explains all the features and it’s worth a read…especially if you’re not sure how the software works etc.

Again all I can do is apologise. We send out network alerts, we update the forum guides and download links, we post on twitter…we do almost everything we can to notify users of our new releases.
I would not recommend you ever send your wallet or private keys to anyone over the internet. You should be treating them as a secret you’re prepared to take to your grave.
If you’re on windows you should be able to open the Windows Explorer and type this in the address bar
where I’ve highlighted the Yellow…you need to put the below location in there to get to your Feathercoin-QT data directory
%AppData%\Feathercoin
you should then see this:
So if you install 0.9.6.2 and then do the above instructions… All you need to do is replace the wallet.dat file you see in the screenshot with your old Backup where you say your coins are stored.
then load Feathercoin-Qt in the normal way.
let me know how you get on.
-
@GLcoin1 how old is your client ?! I tested on 0.9.6.1 which is the previous production release.
Did you not get the network message telling you to upgrade ?
-
You are making some progress now… No I have not gotten any update alerts… I went to my old computer and downloaded the wallet software. this time the balance shows up. but at the bottom it says NO block chain available… and I am 3 years 47 weeks behind… I went to the tab and made a back up on my external drive… dont know if that will help or not… so I don’t think I can send or receive anything

I think you are the one making progress.
If you downloaded the new wallet and your balance showed up. Just leave it open for a bit and let it try and connect to some nodes and start syncing.
The message “No blockchain available” means it hasn’t connected to any Feathercoin nodes to download the blockchain.
If you see your coins - wait for the sync to finish and then you will be able to spend them.
-
i dont know if i will ever spend them i dont know which exchange even takes them or how to spend them… by the way are they even worth anything?

I suggest you do some research then :-)
your collection of 402 FTC is worth 0.01202382 BTC at current trading prices
0.01202382 BTC to USD = $181.86 at current trading prices.
If you can be bothered to browse around the forum and read, you’ll see there’s tons of resources and information on the coin…if you want to learn about it.
this link shows you the exchanges that currently support FTC - See the first post.
https://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/6526/exchanges-that-trade-feathercoin-ftcI hope this helps.
-
Marking as solved since @GLcoin1 reported that they downloaded the new client and was able to see their balance.
-

Are you talking about the new wallet with Version 0.9.6.2 or your old one?

You can copy the blockchain over to the other computer (the one with the transactions) when the sync completes. You can also copy the peers.dat, it may help the other PC connect. If not copy the wallet.dat to the synced PC.
