Wikipedia Entry for Feathercoin
-
Hello Roger, first of all welcome to the forum.
I think it is a good idea to get Featercoin back to Wikipedia again.
Feathercoin had a page in the english Wikipedia years ago, but the moderators deleted it.
Reasons at that time where- missing references in the paper press
references to internet articles where not accepted - article writen by the coders and therefore deemed as advertising.
Interesting for me was that at the same time several other smaller crypto coins had Wikipedia pages which were not deleted…
Nevertheless that’s past and I think it is a good idea to get a new page into Wikipedia. Feathercoin has proven to be a long living coin, and I see a better chance to keep the page in Wikipedia.
Go ahead and create the page. I think there is a discussion section for the pages and if other forum members start editing/improving/changing the page and at the same time discuss the changes on Wikipedia, the chance is high, that your work is not deleted.

Great, looking forward to reading it.
-
Your proposed entry looks really good! Covers all the basics of Feathercoin nicely.
-
Thanks all for your input; I’ll browse the old forums for the missing pieces and hope to find some dead-tree-references I can include.
My suspicion is that we’ll only have one shot at this and if it fails, we’ll be on some ban-list for a while; definitely want to avoid making the same mistakes/shortcomings that were made last time.

Thanks for creating the article on wikipedia.
The ‘moderators’ already have placed their warning to remove the article, if no further and more reliable secondary sources are supplied.
sigh… nothing has changed.

@rogerdarin
I just found a relatively new article describing feathercoin.https://www.lifewire.com/what-is-feathercoin-4153309
It may be worth looking into and take some infromation from there and then add it to the list of secondary sources.
at least it is not driven or related to the feathercoin team, as far as I know
An older article I found at https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/feathercoin-interview-with-peter-bushnell-1376355117/
And finally I found a copy of the old wiki page for feathercoin:

That wasn’t me creating the article on Wikipedia as we aren’t ready yet :-(
It’s very unfortunate that somebody jumped the gun and all we have to show for is a warning, but given the meagre content of the initial article, it’s not surprising.
What we need more than anything now are resources outside of bitcointalk.com (blacklisted by Wikipedia as a source), preferably from traditional old media. For a start, I’ll run with your references below.
-
Sorry to hear that.
On the other hand Wikipedia is designed to be edited by everyone, so do everything you need to do to improve the quality of the article.
Having no sources from print media was an issue the first time we had an article, too.
We didn’t find any :( -
I use this thread to collect and documten sources I find on the web, so here are the next:

Not only about Feathercoin, rather old, but seems to be from ‘normal’ press:

Thanks @wellenreiter - the Guardian link is worth its weight in gold; have added the new sources to Wikipedia.
While I think it’s starting to look solid, more sources will definitely help - not to mention more substance :-)
-
You may find some content in the old newsletters
While we can’t name them as resouces, they may help to get the history of the Feathers described. -
@wellenreiter I can’t believe there were newsletters; thanks !
-
I noticed microphones in the very first newsletter issue; was there a pocast?
–> update: reading through, it’s clear that was a visit by a camera team; so I guess there wasn’t ever a podcast.

Great initiative Roger!
