Simplifying the forum
-
Unfortunately since wrapper hasn’t been active lately the forum has lost quite a bit of steam.
I suggest to reduce the number of sub-boards in this forum. It would make the forum easier to navigate and less dead.
If the forum gets very big we can still add new sub-boards.In particular I’d delete or move the following sub-topics:
Polls (0 topics) -> delete
Other Altcoins (3 months ago) - Make it a Subcategory of Off-Topic
General Category (4 months ago) -> all content can also go into Off-Topic or Feathercoin Discussion. Move current content to Off-Topic.
Community Groups (2 years ago) - delete
Crowd Sourcing (5 months ago) - topics can be a part of Projects instead
Suggestion Box (5 months ago) -> Make it a subcategory of Projects. Other things can go into Feathercoin Discussion or off-topic.Alternatively we can also do it in a similar structure as Bitcointalk does it - everyone is already familiar with that.

Other suggestions:
Remove the shoutbox - we rather have one channel less if there isn’t enough traffic for it. Forward people to Telegram or let them ask directly in the forum instead.
Remove very old pinned topics such as https://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8010/welcome-to-the-new-forum https://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8395/fsight-feathercoin-block-explorer-api https://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8904/dev-website-maintenance-design-github etc.

Having managed forums and an imageboard as a hobby, i concur regarding the removal of the shoutbox for public chat, shoutbox posts could be forum posts (often helping others that lurk the forums, also showing up on google is a very helpful thing)
It can be used as a means of communication between developers though, as its pretty effective.
Plus, too many categories are not a good thing when new posts are few. -
I must say that in my first few weeks on the forum, I also found the number of boards a little overwhelming. As I checked back regularly, I realised most forums don’t have new posts very often.
So I suppose @lclc_ suggestion makes sense for both, newbies and veterans.

Agree with this all, a few members have Admin access, we just need to assign the task.
-
I agree to remove categories with no posts, like Polls, but I doubt, that moving an category to another one as subcategory makes the navigation simpler.
I also think, that the slow time on the forum is partially based on the fact, that things are discussed somewhere else.
If the Developers -we- post more often with news and information, the overall usage will increase again.
As an example we could post more detailed information in the forum for every tweet we send out. -
@Wrapper, @uncle_muddy , @MrWyrm , @Bushstar and myself.
I addition we have several moderators, which have admin access to given categories

nice suggestions

I have disabled the poll category, as polls can be created in most other categories and hardly have been used at all.
I also disabled General->digital media->feathercoin album, as there are no relevant posts.
Last but not least I moved posts from the General category to other categories as preparation of the removal of this category.
I’d prefer to move the posts to their matching categories, rather than moving everything to ‘off topic’@moderators: Please support the clean up of the forum by moving posts to the best matching categories. Start with the General category. The goal is to empty it and then disable/remove it

agree that it’s a bit complicated for newbies to navigate through the forum. thanks to all the mods who work to clean up the space here! :thumbs_up:
