@Yuudachipoi said in A challenger appears.. (well, you know, meme...):

Thank you for your answer :D It’s a bit “wait and see” and I’ll look to secure my money like you said.

Well… the more volunteers we get the more progress is made.

Right now our team is busy working on the Feathercoin Core software. We do have a few different projects going that have been put aside for different reasons.

Feathercoin is not like Bitcoin or Litecoin with fully funded developers and large investors.
We are an opensource community… if you want the price to rise so badly…contribute ;-)

      wrapper

Even if you start your own coin (FTC advised Hullcoin to do that) … :

FTC is ideal to experiment with. It is an open source project, community driven and members have concentrate more on bringing other members up to speed so they can assist with development, use or mine Feathercoin - In addition to being able to add and release new features before Bitcoin, such as stealth addresses and a Multisignature wallet.

To do this FTC leverages the $100ks or pounds worth of development of Bitcoin and then adds FTC features and settings.

FTC has been developed to be “ASIC” resistant so can be mined with commercial hardware, is 10 times more capacity that Bitcoin already, to handle normal day to day transactions.

To that end I have also developed a guide, which collates threads from the forum :

      https://github.com/wrapperband/FeathercoinWalletGuide

There is also a [FAQ] Thread that you may find useful as you are researching.

      [FAQ]s : https://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8523/faq-new-forum-member-most-asked-questions-try-here-first

e.g. [FAQ] How do I mine Feathercoins?

      http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8235/nsgminer-v0-9-0-the-fastest-neoscrypt-gpu-miner/19

The link could do with an update but it points to NSgminer. There are some guides, but they get out of date, best follow the instructions with the docs of the software which are good nowadays.

      http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8518/minerx-neoscrypt-miningtool

Other wise some pools have their own miner and instructions.

      Github
Any sort of study of Alternative currency should include Github, and how that is used to have open software development. You can assist by reporting bugs, raising issues, making improvement requests or contributing some code you have which aids your custom use case …

One of the reasons we recommend p2pool is that you don’t have to create any account on a server, you just mine to an address …

@lclc_ …no need to be sorry :-) @wrapper is right.

The way I see it… Everyone starts somewhere…recently we’ve had a big influx of either new users or returning users from 2013/2014

The new users are usually quite excited about Crypto and just want their questions answered as quickly as possible…so I’ve personally found that most of the new users would rather ask a question (most of them are repeat questions from other users) Than to actually read through tons of documentation…

The best place to start is here:
      http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8523/faq-new-forum-member-most-asked-questions-try-here-first

@wrapper put it a lot of work organising that list - each question is very straight forward and a link to the topic/answer is provided

If you receive short or blunt/brusk answers it’s usually because we are answering the question directly…in a perfect world you should do your own research ;-)

Read read read :-) knowledge is power.

Create a mechanism similar to Satoshipay. This allows developers to put content on their page behind a feathercoin paywall.

Create an API which web designers could incorporate into their pages which would act as a mining tool. The tool should be created in such a way that the miner would reward the visitor - perhaps populating the wallet of the first option. This could be marketed as a customer loyalty program.

@goodheads said in Wallet not syncing after not logging in for a long time:

      Hey ya’ll,

It’s been a while - I’ve dusted off the old QT as the chatter is starting to build and I’m getting into it again - but my wallet won’t begin to sync.

It’s saying that it’s got 8 connections, but it won’t download anymore blocks (says it hasn’t downloaded any for 2 years or so - which is strange because I’ve opened it a number of times since then - possibly just to make sure the coins were still there though and not really paying attention to whether or not it syncs).

Anyone know a fix? Non techie please!

      NB: I’m on a mac

Hello and welcome back. If you say you “dusted off the old QT” …can we assume you are running an older version ?

The latest production version is 0.9.6. You can download the Mac DMG from the GitHub Release or from www.feathercoin.com - Please remember to backup your wallet.dat and private keys before you upgrade.

Please let us know how you get on and feel free to post back, we are here to help.

@Chirale said in Welcome - Please introduce yourself in New Members ::

Hello! I have been a member of the the feathercoin forum for many years, but I must admit that I went awol for a while! I was pleased to see that you still have my email in you database!
I am slowly getting back into mining and hopefully some cool feather/crypto project! good luck to everyone!
      P.S.
are we still meeting in Oxford (or anywhere else in in UK)??

Hi @Chirale As far as “Leaders” Bushstar had to move on, the same FTC team supported Chrisj and Calum who contributed to costs. Lizhi contributed a lot to 0.9.6 release. UncleMuddy, Wellenreiter are “in charge” of services and Github currently.

Feathercoin has survived so far as an open source project which seems incredible and worth continuing. FTC does need some human support as a DAO, for coding, bugfixes and support. The strategy has therefore been develop the website and resources to support FTC as automatically as possible.
